June Meeting, Lexington County Airport (6J0), 6/28/20, 6-8pm

Ron in His COVID/Gnat Outfit - A Sign of the Times

A casual "drop-in" was held at Lexington County Airport (6J0) on Sunday, June 28th, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00pm EDT. This was our first attempted activity since the COVID-19 pandemic ravaged our country and the rest of the world. It was a social event only; no business meeting was held. All members were invited to drop in, but attendance was completely voluntary. We had a very good turnout under the circumstances. In spite of the heat and the gnats, those attending seemed very enthusiastic about renewing our chapter activities. Most members seem ready to renew some semblance of normalcy in their daily lives. Every attempt was made to follow SCDHEC guidelines for avoiding COVID-19. Packaged snacks, cold bottled water, and cold soft drinks were distributed to those attending by members wearing rubber gloves.  We even gained one new chapter member, John Smith. Randy indicated that he plans to send out a survey to all members next week to gauge further interest in renewing chapter meetings. Everything went very well until a attendees became aware of a fast moving thunderstorm approaching from the northwest around 7:45pm, so members rushed to get back to their home airports before the storm hit. In case you don't recognize him, that's Ron Mowery above attired in his protective mask and "gnat proof" mesh net outfit. Click on Ron's photo to see more photos of the event.

Here are the latest additions to our chapter inventory, a Sharp Aquos 65" TV and a Roku HD device. Ron Angerman and Randy Berry installed both on Saturday, March 21st, in Ron's hangar. It has a great picture, and it's internal sound system is robust enough that we will not need a supplemental sound source. We wish to thank Al Strickland for his generous donation of this TV, a remote control device, and a 25' cable with various attachments. The original remote was lost, and it was difficult to control the TV without one, so Al even ordered a new remote and donated it to the chapter. Also, we wish to thank Dave Hardy for donating a Roku HD device, which essentially turns this TV into a "smart" TV. We now have the capability of making computer presentations and viewing aviation videos and programs at our meetings and events. Ron has WIFI installed in his hangar, so we can also stream and watch aviation programs and videos via the internet. As you can see from the photo above, we placed the TV on top of one of Ron's tall storage cabinets, so it's located high enough that it can be viewed from most any position in the hangar without any obstructions, including over someone else's head. We've turned the stand we previously used for our 55" TCL TV into a speaker podium and laptop platform and moved the 55" TCL TV back to the 6J0 airport terminal to allow viewing of instructional courses and programs by members who fly in there and wish to watch them.
